This year the Anchorage Concert Chorus continues its long tradition of choral excellence in Anchorage and surrounding communities.
Embracing a wide spectrum of choral music, ranging from classical choral masterworks to contemporary popular pieces, the 160-member Chorus offers a three-concert series annually. Our History ACC’s existence in the Alaska community has been long and successful. Founded in 1947 by Lorene Harrison, the Chorus is a mainstay in Anchorage’s arts community. Affiliations -Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, Resident Company -Chorus America, member in good standing Community Service -Special Community Events on request, such as Heroes Welcome, 50th Anniversary of Statehood celebrations -Annual Community “Messiah” sponsor -Annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony -Annual Anchorage Museum of History and Art holiday program Community education & outreach -Student Vocal Competition & Winner’s Recital for vocal lesson scholarships -High School and College Student mentorship scholarships -Free ticket give-away programs for disadvantaged youth and adults Accomplishments -Year 2000 recipient of the Eleanor Sullivan Humanitarian Award, presented by Soroptimist International of Anchorage -Year 2000 recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Arts Organization -Tours to Czech Republic, Russa, Australia, New Zealand, Central and Eastern Europe, Scotland, England, Wales, Canada, Brazil and Argentina. -Fifth Place, Mixed Chorus Competition, Llanglollen International Musical Eisteddfod, 1996. |
